Charles Lindbergh being received by Nazis in Bremen, Germany - 1937

Lindbergh traveled often to Germany from 1936 to 1939 to report on German aviation and the Luftwaffe. By the approval of Hermann Goering, Lindbergh was the first American to view and examine the Junkers Ju 88 and the Messerschmitt Bf 109.  He was even given the opportunity to pilot a Bf 109. (via)
