US Navy Commander and Aviator Joseph “Jumpin’ Joe” Clifton enjoys some ice cream aboard the USS Saratoga upon his return from a mission in the Pacific - 1944

During his time as Commander of Air Group 12, (the combination of air groups from the HMS Illustrious and USS Saratoga) Clifton was known among the fleet for his large appetite for ice cream.
